Today is all about launch teams.

First, I want to let you know that the application for the Last to Fall launch team will be in my November newsletter. And ONLY in my November newsletter. So if you want to apply, and I hope you do, you’ll need to read that email and follow the links to apply.

Okay, now on to the second launch team I want to share with you.

While I know many of you are romantic suspense and romantic suspense only readers, I also know that most of you read in a lot of other genres.

My dear friend, Deborah Clack, is the debut author for a brand new imprint from my publisher. Haven (and yes, I am in LOVE with the name!) is the new clean and wholesome imprint from Baker Publishing Group. While Revell (my publisher) and Bethany House are the two imprints you’re probably most familiar with, BPG has several other imprints and Haven is the newest to join the family.

Haven launches with Deborah’s book, Even After This, in February. In preparation for this, Deborah has opened up her launch team and the application closes on Friday at midnight.

So, let’s do a little Q&A to cover a few questions you may have.

Q. What is Haven anyway?

A. Haven is the clean and wholesome imprint from Baker Publishing Group. These novels are acquired and edited by the same team that acquire and edit books for Revell and Bethany House. The only difference is that these books do not have an overt faith element. That doesn’t mean they aren’t written from a Christian worldview! Just that the faith elements aren’t spelled out. They are still going to be uplifting, inspiring, and safe for your soul!

Q. Why are you telling us about Deborah’s book launch team?

A. Reason #1 – she’s one of my best friends. Reason #2 – she’s a phenomenal author and this story is … chef’s kiss! Reason #3 – Getting readers and launch team members when you’re just starting out can be tricky, and I know my readers are the BEST and are amazing at helping get the word out about new books!

Q. Is Even After This romantic suspense or contemporary romance?

A. It’s contemporary romance, but, I personally think Deborah’s books defy genre classifications. Even After This goes deep y’all. But then, it will make you snort your coffee with laughter, and then there’s the romance, and there is a lot of high stakes drama as well. This book is, quite simply, a story well told. If you love a good story, you’ll love this book.

Q. Who is Deborah Clack?

A. Deborah is a Texas girl. On College Football Saturdays our texts will have more to do with Texas and Clemson than anything else. She’s a wife and mother who loves Jesus with every fiber of her being. The story of how this book came to be, how her series with Haven came to be, and really her entire journey to publication is the kind of Story that only God could write. I’ve been privileged to have a front row seat to His Glory and it has been astounding as Deborah has held her hands and her stories open to His plans.

Q. Can you tell me more about Even After This?

A. Like I said, this book goes into some deep territory. This isn’t a rom com. This isn’t fluff. But, I promise there is legit humor, pain that gets redeemed, and that you will get a fabulous and swoony clean romance.

I got a little emotional talking about Aunt Minnie and how my sweet Emma inspired that character. It means the world to me when readers connect with the representation and see how families can wrap around each other with love.

Say hello to Last to Fall

The third and final book in the Gossamer Falls series!

I’ve been working hard on Mo and Bronwyn’s story – and the work will continue through the summer! It’s going to be a wild ride and I’m praying my readers will find Last to Fall to be an exceptionally satisfying conclusion to the series!

April Writing Update:

Well…honestly?

I’m writing very little at the moment, and I am 100% okay with that!
Every writer is different, and every writer has their own process.

My process, sadly, involves intense bursts of writing followed by a month or two of word fatigue so intense that I can barely even read! The first time this happened to me, I panicked. Reading is like breathing! I read all the time. Fiction, nonfiction, romance, suspense, thrillers, fantasy…I read just about anything! But, when I’m on a deadline, my reading is limited to re-reads of old favorites because that’s all my brain can handle.

Also, because, true story, I have the self-control of a fruit fly, and if I start reading a book and get sucked in? Guess what happens? I read…and I don’t write. Which is all well and good except for when I’M ON A DEADLINE!

You’d think when the deadline is past that I’d be itching to read new things. And I am. But, I don’t. I try! But I can’t get into anything for the first few weeks. I start and stop books. It drives me bonkers! But it passes. It just takes time.

And this word fatigue extends to my writing life as well. In the first month or so after I turn a book in, it’s all I can do to write blog posts and social media posts! I’ve learned to roll with it. It won’t be long before I start getting antsy to dive into a new story…but…I can’t talk about that yet!!

For now, I can tell you that there are more stories coming. They’re simmering in my subconscious while I wait for my editor to get her hands on Mo and Bronwyn and straighten them out!

Y’all should pray for her! She has her work cut out for her with those two!

It’s Secret Service Summer for the month of August!

July was all about the Dive Team Investigations series, and I loved revisiting my Carrington friends. But in August, we’re focusing on the Defend and Protect series which is now 100% complete!

I don’t know about you, but as a reader, I have mixed feelings about series. On the one hand, I pretty much never want them to end. I always want more. On the other hand, I love finding a series that is complete so I know I don’t have to wait for the next installment.

As an author, there’s something bittersweet about a completed series. I will miss my Secret Service friends. But I’m already fully immersed in a new place with new characters that I hope my readers will love just as much as they love the Carrington and Raleigh teams.

Before we turn our sights to Gossamer Falls (the new book releases in March!), I’m excited to get to spend the next month just chilling with the Raleigh Secret Service agents – and a few FBI agents, and a few DC Secret Service agents thrown in for good measure!

Happy July friends!

This month, we’re basking in the backlist!

If you aren’t familiar with the term, an author’s backlist is made up of the books they have published previously – usually at least a year earlier – that are still in print.

Backlist books don’t receive all the marketing and publicity that is showered on current releases. You probably won’t see them as much on social media. And if you’re new to an author, you may not have heard much, if anything, about these books.

Of course, if the author enjoys dropping her previous characters into her new books, it’s possible the reader has met some, maybe even all, of the backlist characters without realizing it.

As that very kind of author, I can assure you that if you’ve read the Defend and Protect series, you’ve met the Dive Team Investigations characters. They just insisted on showing up!

And then they clamored for their fair share of the spotlight.

“It’s been all about Raleigh, the Secret Service, the FBI. Special agents everywhere. How about showing us some love? Let’s talk about diving, serial killers, human trafficking, cold cases, and everyone’s favorite cyber security/computer forensics expert.”

I’ll let you guess which character was most insistent. Honestly, it wasn’t a hard sell. I’ve missed them. And I want you to love them as much as I do.
